Seeing the Forest: New FAIR Insights and Connectivity Insight Repository Reports

Repository metadata management often focuses on a single metadata record at a time, making it difficult to see the forest for the trees. We are excited to launch two new services: FAIR Insights and Connectivity Insights. These two new services allow repository managers to zoom out to see a holistic view of their repository, i.e. the forest, in two different ways - completeness for FAIR elements in four use cases, and connectivity for a variety of identifiers.

FAIR Repository Insights (DataCite Metadata)
Sale Price:$400.00 Original Price:$500.00

FAIR repository insights provide a new way of understanding the completeness of your DataCite metadata records. The insight analysis includes about 60 fields that are grouped into four use cases:

  1. Findable: Text—Documentation concepts used to support many types of data discovery, i.e., text, spatial/temporal, author, publisher, etc.

  2. Findable: Identifiers—Documentation concepts that provide identifiers and references for discovery concepts.

  3. AIR: Connections—Documentation concepts for dataset interoperability and connections for resource documentation, understanding, and trust building.

  4. AIR: Contacts—Documentation concepts for contacts who can answer questions not addressed in the metadata or other documentation.

For more details see FAIR DataCite Metadata - University and College Bright Spots.

Connectivity Insights (DataCite Metadata)
Sale Price:$400.00 Original Price:$500.00

Connectivity insights measure how well a repository’s metadata record collections are identified and connected to the global research infrastructure through the PID Graph. Connectivity can be quantified for any item or collection of items that can have identifiers. It is the number of existing identifiers divided by the number of possible identifiers. If no identifiers are present, connectivity = 0. If all potential identifiers are present, connectivity = 1. For more details on this type of report, see University and College Connectivity @ DataCite and Improving Domain Repository Connectivity: Closing the Circle.

The insight report can be focused on connectivity for:

  • People - ORCID (how many authors or contributors have ORCIDs?)

  • Affiliations (how many authors or contributors have affiliations?)

  • RORs (how many of your affiliations have RORs?)

  • Funders (how many of your funders have funder names? how many have funder identifiers?)

  • Awards (how many of your awards have award identifiers?)

What’s included: Each insight analysis includes a customized report sent within ten business days and a one-hour meeting to discuss results and identify opportunities for improvement. These services can be repeated to show improvements over time.

Discounts are available for groups of repositories managed by a single organization and repository consortia. Contact Ted.

Note: This offer includes DataCite metadata repositories with fewer than 7,500 records or samples of 7,500 records from larger repositories.
